411 The Walters Bunch

Happy Thanksgiving! We finally had a true fall week here in north Texas. The highs were in the mid-seventies and low's in the upper 40's.  There was no strong winds just beautiful weather.  We enjoyed the weather by riding our horse twice. It would have been three times, but the next cold front came through a little earlier than anticipated. For the first time ever, my husband and myself rode our horse. Granted, we each only rode her for about 5 minutes, but this was the first time we felt she was to the point where she is in shape enough for "normal" work. She wasn't exactly thrilled with her heavier weight load, but she did fine and we really had fun. Riding the horse is so much more fun than just leading the horse around with the kids. The horse is doing wonderfully with the new farrier and we haven't had any major issues.  My only complaint is if the horse and donkey don't see that I am awake exactly 10 minutes after sunrise then the donkey p

Please note that you see NO ONE else in this shot. Texas weather is nothing if not sporadic.  We had the never-ending summer, jumped straight into winter, and then back tracked to a nice fall temp. We had planned a fun trip for a few days to Waco with my parents.  We normally head to Branson the past couple of years, but this year we didn't want to drive that far and my parents didn't want to fly so we settled on something closer.  My eldest daughter is a HUGE "Fixer Upper" fan so a trip to the Silos has been a must see for a while.  The two days before we left were perfect. It was mid 70's and sunny. Unfortunately, the day we left, actually about 30 minutes before we left, an artic cold front came through.  The winds were insanely high with this front, over 20mph sustained and 45 mph gusts.  What better time than this to drive a high profile vehicle 150 miles? Pre game listening of the Greatest Showman Soundtrack. Living in Texas my entire life, I know that the weather can change in a heartbeat. Two weeks ago we were complaining about the never ending summer and near 100 degree days. Fast forward two weeks and temperatures are barely moving into the low 40's. It is super windy, cold, muddy, and wet. It is more like a Texas January and not a nice fall day. This is the second year in a row we have moved directly from summer and into full on winter. I am not a fan. I want my nice beautiful fall days and so do the kids. It was too hot to play outside and now it is too cold and wet.  The horses and chickens are living in a cold, muddy mess and there is not a whole lot we can do, other than hope the rain stops so the mud can dry out. I will say doing farm chores in the cold, windy rain is probably my least favorite. It creates a whole set of extra chores to do and now it takes me twice as long each day to get everything done.  I hope ne
