The Bunch Are Still Melting!

Chillin at the movies, yes T brought his blanket and neck pillow Apparently since saying that we are melting in my last post, but not setting any records, God has decided to show me his wonderful since of humor. This last week we shattered our high temperature record since records starting being kept. IT WAS EXCURCIATINGLY HOT! We had 10 days over 100 and 5 of those were over 105 without the heat index.  I felt so bad for our poor chickens. We brought them ice several times a day, turned on their misters, and feed them cold fruit, but they were still pretty miserable since even in the shade it was still 110! I had no problems getting my steps in with all the tromping back and forth to their various pens. Of course, I had to watch EVERY one of those steps so I didn't fall in one of the hundreds of 30 inch plus cracks, even where I water is getting big crack s and I water all day EVERY day. Yep, no water conservation in the country. Poor Roosters were so hot they started

The Bunch Are Melting!!!

July 4 Ok, so it isn't actually a record breaking hot summer and "technically" we haven't hit a 100 very many times, but summer started in April and hasn't let up. Combine that with the NO rain and my 18 inch deep cracks are now over 2 feet and walking in my yard is taking your own life in your hands, In fact, I don't really let the dog out any more except to go to the bathroom. We have been walking her in the mornings and praying NO dogs are out. So far so good; she just makes horrible shrieking sounds as we walk past the neighbors boxer and llamas (yes, I said llamas). For the past week, it has rained pretty much everywhere, BUT here. We have been feverishly working on the camper. We are getting a lot done (she says as it currently sits in the driveway with three sides and a door missing). However, it takes about an hour to tarp it all up and with the random thunderstorms that have passed literally within 2 miles to our north, south, west, and e

The Bunch Survive Super Crazy Sports Camp and Go To The Museum

We are down to ONLY one free loader chicken now (excluding the roosters)! The one not laying is, of course , the one that L loves to cart around and baby. It is the Lucy to my Ethel (told you I raise my kids on 1960's sitcoms). They really are named Lucy and Ethel. Yes, the kids named them themselves, which is why one is called Jim Jr. to replace the one that passed last year. Yes, it stands for Painless Potter and Jim Hunter from Paleface. The roo is named Painless, which I feel so stupid yelling "stop Painless" as he very obviously is NOT being painless at that moment. The neighbors are old enough though that they might get the Paleface reference and if not, I am sure that is probably one of the least weird things we have done. I think washing chicken butts on the picnic table might be the most weird....or relaxing in the stock tank when it gets hot. Wow, we really are hillbillies now. Sports camp was the crazy mess I knew it would be. Think rock concert meets spor
