The Bunch Are Busy

C & H got there engagement pictures back. They turned out really good. First off, it has been nice to have the cooler weather, but I could really do without the 40 mph winds! Everything is pretty much being beat to death by the winds and getting hay is really NOT fun. The new chicken has adapted to living in the coop with the other hens surprisingly well. No one really picks on her and she seems happy. She adjusted to the coop so much better than the last chicken we introduced (the highway chicken). It seems like it was just too easy. L tried out for her solo last week and should find out this week if she got it. It is for the Christmas concert. She sings with the rest of the student choir this Sunday at both services, but it is just one song and I don't think there is any solos. She really seems to like being a part of the choir. I can't wait to hear her sing! T finally has his new basketball uniform in and is ready to play in next week's tournament, which is all the

The Bunch Integrate a Chicken, Vote, and Get Ready For Christmas

First off, I can't believe how quickly October is going by. The weather has been so warm it's no wonder why I can't believe it is October! It feels more like mid September. This week we kept our newest chicken in a crate on the deck just in case she was ill. That way she wouldn't infect the rest of the flock. However, she is not only looking extremely healthy, but also laying eggs-which means she is healthy or she wouldn't be laying. This week she gets to move into the coop with the other chickens, but in her crate. This way the chickens will get use to her being there, but won't be able to gang up on her and peck the intruder to death. And yes, chickens can do that. They don't like members that aren't in their flock.  Don't get me wrong she'll still get pecked a lot even after the slow introduction, but they most likely will just give her a couple of pecks so she knows her rank and then leave her alone.  Fang is doing well! Fang's coop insi

The Bunch Add A New Member to the Flock

The storms were approaching. Luckily, the worst parts went around us. This was both a quick week and a long week. First, the chicken that A had seen at the animal shelter was, of course, still there so after her shift she did what we had already discussed and brought it home.  They were so happy to get rid of it that they didn't even charge us the $10 fee. Apparently, they decided the chicken was "too feisty" to take out of the cage and put in our carrier so they sent it home with A in the cage they had been keeping it in. At first, I thought it meant that this chicken would be hard to catch, but it turned out to be one of the most docile chickens we have ever had to catch. Several of our current chickens are way worse about being caught. I think that the shelter was just unfamiliar with how to catch a chicken and was too scared about getting pecked. We cleaned out the cage they sent home with her and A will bring it back to them next week when she goes in.  We named he

The Bunch Girls Go To H's Bridal Shower and Celebrate Birthdays

The girls. My soon to be official granddaughter is 12. It appears that our family is back to pre-covid levels of busyness. Maybe slightly less busy since L is not playing a sport and A does her own thing. However, we literally only have 5 days left in October that don't have anything already scheduled. Now, some things are fun things like dinner with my parents or visiting family, but I schedule these things anyways just so nothing will come up that interferes with our plans.  D has a lot of mandatory training this month on his days off so basically this month we are super busy and won't have time to go camping. Hopefully, we will be able to go twice in November, but with T's basketball starting up around then I am not sure what our schedule will look like.  A has been going to the college group at church and this weekend they are going to Camp Copass in Denton, which is more like just staying in a cabin and doing all the activities that they have there, like volleyball,
