D and I did it! We are Scout Family Campout survivors. Our semi annual scout family campout is definitely just for the kids because the parents work....a lot. This time we had it at Lake Tawakonie State Park. We loaded up the camper (which worked great by the way) and the bikes and headed out to east TX. Once we arrived about 3 hours later, the craziness that is camping weekend began. The kids were given their bikes to ride constantly around the loop while finding friends to ride with them. This pretty much describes the whole weekend. Lots of kids screaming, riding bikes, walking dogs, hiking, swimming, and just generally having a great time getting dirty and being outside. Being that we hate being dirty and more importantly hate the kids being dirty, this is a real test of our patience to let the kids have fun with their friends. Unfortunately, this state park has a serious bathroom issue. I think they assume most people who visit will have rv's. This is the only possible explanation for having only 4 bathrooms. Not only were there only 4 bathrooms, but each one was a single toilet/shower combo. About 90% of our troop tent camps and since we all homeschool ,we also meet the unwritten requirement of having a minimum of 4 kids per family, with two families having 8. Tons of little kids, four bathrooms/showers, and the most famous park for having HUGE amounts of poison ivy, yes, it was NOT ideal. That was probably the worst part. On Saturday, we schedule activity time for two hours. The girls and I went on a hike with their troop and D took T and his troop fishing. We capped the night off with a dessert bar and dutch oven contest while watching the scouts perform skits. On Sunday morning, we meet for breakfast and then have a worship service. The cubs were in charge of breakfast this time so the girls and I were able to relax a bit before breakfast while the boys got up and went to start cooking about 7am. It was really fun and other than the poison ivy and bathroom situation, it was a fantastic weekend.
My husband loves his ugly sun hats.
She was so well behaved that I am taking her to the vet. It was just not right. Let people pet her, no chasing bikes or barking at other dogs. Very worrisome.
Enjoying S'more time. This is how D "cleans" the marshmallow residue of the stick.
Snug as a bug, all tucked in and watching a movie. I don't really like roughing it. I am more a KOA girl.
Our make shift sink, believe it or not this is the envy of many of the campers!
Going Fishing
Totally posing for a picture, I pack and plan. My wonderful husband is in charge of ALL cooking and dishes while camping.
If you look closely at the ground, you will find lots of poisonous plant life.
Since D and I are both leaders, the kids tend to congregate at our campsite.
I think the bike helmet makes this even better.
L and her friend
We have done it. We are merging our two flocks of girls together. We still don't quite believe they are in fact all girls. The 2 older hens are not as receptive as I hoped they would be and last night tried to each get in one coop by themselves (we have 2 coops that each can hold 6 birds) and not allow ANY other hens inside with them. We had to physically reorganize them after it was dark (chickens are more docile when it is dark and won't venture out if they are moved). The poor babies had no idea why they were being chased out of the only home they have ever know by a big bully, but after the reorganization, they were all happy.....except maybe the big bully who we moved to the other coop.
My ear infection is doing better, but my antibiotics have not completely cleared the infection so I will most likely get another round. I have an ENT visit soon and they should be able to handle the situation better. It is so annoying.
