Love the views from the deck |
We had a nice and quiet Easter. It was probably a little too quiet for D. He has been dealing with hearing loss completely in one ear and partially in the other. The ENT is so busy this allergy season that it actually is taking a few days to be able to get in to see the doctor. We usually go to my in laws and have a nice lunch, but with D's ears and other stuff going on, we decided to have an Easter closer to home. We did make the early service at church. This is the first time in a long time we went to service on Easter Sunday. It was insanely packed. It took almost 30 minutes just to leave the parking lot.
L only dyed 8 eggs so D and I could each have 2 eggs to dye. It was so sweet and we had fun doing it! |
L's eggs |
T spent about 30 minutes dyeing eggs, compared to the 3 hours the girls spent on their eggs. |
I think they still turned out cute, but the girls' eggs were incredible. |
A's eggs |
Her favorite egg, and the one that took the longest to make, was this dragon egg. |
She used sharpies on most of them. |
I don't have the patience to do this. |
My more simple eggs were the Grinch and just a Happy Easter egg. |
D made a minion and a Thundercat egg |
The kids had their egg hunt; we ate a nice ham dinner; we watched HOP; We basically had a very low key, relaxing Sunday, which is what D needed. HIs ears have really been frustrating him. I am hopeful that after his doctor visit on Thursday he will have a better idea of what is going on and how long it will last.
WOW, we all were tired and hadn't slept well! |
My crew |
Maisy can't be left out. |
You can't really tell, but T was actually the big winner in the egg hunt. |
Our big Chicago trip is on the horizon and we are really excited. Hopefully, we addressed all the immediate needs of the camper on our last horrific camp out. Unfortunately, I had to find someone new to watch my chickens during our trip because the sitter I hired last time is no longer available. I am using a couple of high school girls that are nearby and raise poultry. I am hopeful that they will be good since they are very experienced with chickens. One of our chickens has been separated from the others because she is exhibiting signs of illness. I cannot figure out what exactly is her issue. She is obviously losing weight and is very pale, but she still eats and exhibits some normal behavior. I plan to keep an eye on her for at least a week before I put her back with the others. We have put so much time and money into these chickens we do not want an illness to wipe out the whole flock...….though it would make it easier to travel. We would miss our "free" organic eggs. After all is said and done, our egg cost per dozen is probably like $25. It has been insanely expensive having chickens. The chicken feed and actual chicken are the cheapest part! We do love them though. Each one has her own personality and they are just so much fun to watch. Plus they really do help with bug control, at least in their pen. The only bug you can find in there is an ant, though they do love ant larvae if they see it.
The girls have not done well this year in volleyball. Let me rephrase that, my girls have played well individually, but their team as a whole has struggled. This is the first time L has ever been on a losing team and A hasn't been on one since her first year playing. I think it does them good to be on a less successful team. They had started getting too competitive and now they need to remember that this is just a rec team and it is just for them to try their best and most importantly have FUN. We have one more regular season game and then the playoffs.
We did what we could to protect the car windshields from the expected baseball size hail. |
Luckily, the forecast was wrong and we just ended up with nickel size hail. |
