Everyone we know, from our basketball and church families to our actual families, have been sick with Covid recently. My parents have had it, D's parents have had it, our Aunt, C and his entire family have had it, but our family has barely had a sniffle. L did have a sore throat for a few days a couple of weeks ago, but nothing major. The rest of us have been fine, not even a hint of fatigue. This has led me to the conclusion that one of two things is going on. The first is that we are the carriers and are unknowingly infecting all our family and friends as we go about our business or that, the most likely option, is that we still have high amounts of antibodies from when we were sick 6 months ago. I am just happy that I am NOT sick. Covid was horrible and even though this strain is supposedly a lot more mild than the one we had, I still don't want to get sick! It was worst two weeks ever and I do NOT want to experience it again. Apparently, D didn't feel as bad as I did when we were ill, which is great, but if he tells me one more time it wasn't that bad I may have to push him down a hill on our hike! You can't tell someone else how they feel! I felt absolutely horrible and never want to feel that bad again. I still don't plan to get vaccinated though. I had plans to, but now it appears that the boosters are infinite and they really don't keep you from getting sick anyways. They try to sell it as it will "help with your symptoms", but tons of people handle it just as well without getting vaccinated. If it actually meant we could go back to pre Covid life, I would do it, but they have already shown that is not going to happen. We will wear masks and stay far apart forever or until everyone finally decides that is no way to live. Do you really want to stay away from an elderly loved one for years just so you won't make them ill? Personally, I think they would rather see loved ones and if they get sick and die well at least their last few years were filled with the joy of seeing those that they loved most. You can't get time back and you never know when your time is up.
This past weekend T played a fantastic basketball game. We ended up losing by one basket in the final 30 seconds, but it was a very fun game to watch. This game was in Lewisville so my parents were able to come and watch him play. Afterwards, T went to spend the night at their house and have a play date with Grandpa. He was so excited! Grandpa is a lot like a teenage boy. They watch westerns, play the Nintendo Switch, and get out the ping pong table to compete against each other. T has such a great time and I am happy they have been able to form such a great bond. He will always have such wonderful memories to look back on.
T wrote a sweet paragraph about his grandpa for one of his english assignments. |
L passed her written exam for her license and we now get to go get her permit. This should go better than practicing with A because L really WANTS to drive. Unfortunately, the earliest DPS appointment is not until April 11! You can imagine how sad L was to learn this so next week we are going to go in person to see if we can get one of the coveted walk in appointments. I hope we can, but don't hold a lot of hope. Even at the beginning of the pandemic the wait time for A to make an appointment was only one month out. I have no idea why now it is over 3 months.
I learned something this week. I can go months, since last June exactly, without an oven and I haven't even missed it. Our toaster oven is HUGE and I have always mostly just used that anyways. However, the couch my in laws gave us about a decade ago broke. By broke, I mean the support bar snapped and the motor was basically just pushing a bar up our posterior ends! I lived with the broken couch for about 3 days and as soon as D was off from work we headed down to NFM and bought a new couch, choosing only from what was in stock. As for the oven, everywhere has such long wait times we are just going to replace the heating elements and live with it for awhile longer. Most places, including Lowe's and NFM, the earliest "guess" for getting it in stock is August 5! What happened to all the ovens! Of the probably 60 ranges that were on display anywhere, only about 5 are in stock and most of those were gas or built ins. Neither of which I have. The couches were the same way. Of the 160 ones on display at NFM, only about 33 were in stock! It would be a lot easier if they identified which ones that they had in stock so people didn't waste their time. A little sticker on it would be most helpful.
It sits about 3 inches taller than our old couch. I feel like I am on a perch, but I do like the couch. |
