This is the first time in the past 3 years that we haven't been able to go to Six Flags during an unusual cold front during the hot Texas summer. I really kept hoping it was coming, but with our tickets expiring and no cold spell in the forecast we had no other option than to brave the heat. Since we go every year we did not need to spend the entire day there so we decided to get there around 2pm and stay until 10pm. As it turns out not very many people wanted to brave the 104 day. The longest ride wait was about 25 minutes and most had almost no wait. Since we came after lunch, we only needed one meal to buy which was nice and Six Flags will give you free ice cold tap water if you ask. We had no idea it was that hot until we saw the news the next day. The park did a great job with fans, misters, and ice cold waters.
This was the first time ALL my kids were finally tall enough AND wanted to ride the big roller coasters. My oldest still wouldn't do the Superman or the Titan, but never fear my 6 and 9 year old kept daddy company. It was warm, but we had a really great time.

We also found some time to finally take out the new to us camper for a few days. We headed to Cooper Lake State Park Doctors Creek Unit to try it out and see what improvements it needed. It was going to be well over 100 during our stay and I was really hoping the a/c would work, but brought 3 heavy duty fans just in case. Luckily, the a/c did work and did so well we almost froze to death at night. The were no major repairs it needed, thank goodness. It just needs some minor replacement parts to replace the older worn down ones. We had a great time hiking and swimming in the lake. There were literally only two other campers there so we pretty much had free run of the park. We had lots of fun and our first camping experience with the dog went more smoothly than anticipated. We need a busier park to really try her out though, however she did very well not barking and staying in her kennel while we were gone.
About to take the dog on her hike. |
Yep, she still tries to choke herself every time we walk her. |
The were tons of silk worms here. Would make a great haunted trail. |
Big old snake skin right in the middle of the trail....ummm where's the snake? |
The lake felt great after our hike! |

Super cute camper themed playground....it's a motor home: |
Unfortunately, D's grandma passed away while we were gone. His grandfather died on our last trip. He thinks we should have everyone submit to physicals before we travel. His grandmothers passing was not unexpected though, but still sad regardless. She was a sweet and lovely lady who always treated me as if I was one her own grandchildren. My memories of Christmas Eve at her house are wonderful ones that I will always cherish. May she enjoy her rewards now.
