Home Sweet Home. |
We love Christmas in our household. In fact, on Thanksgiving Day it is a tradition to make our gingerbread houses and start decorating. All our shopping is finished and we just relax and take in the holiday by Dec 10. This year is no different. We finished shopping and wrapping on the 13th. Yay! Shipping caused a little bit of stress about our angel gifts arriving on time this year, but literally the day they arrived the kids and I set up a gift wrapping line and we had everything wrapped and at the church within an hour. Talk about stressful.

We all take turns having Cookie the elf do different things each night. When everyone gets up the next morning we see what she was up too. Sometimes she has a wii party. |

Sometimes she wraps gifts |

Sometimes she has an accident. |
|
Sometimes she makes a mess.....I mean cooks. We all have fun seeing what Cookie does each night. |
We started our vacation on Dec. 11th this year and have been so busy each day so far we have not really enjoyed it. The girls and I have a tradition that we watch one Christmas movie a day from Dec.1 to Dec. 25. We have managed to do that. I have to say Netflix that you have some pretty corny Christmas movies, though some are good. We attended a skating party with our scout group that was super fun. D and I even skated, though I had to return my first set of skates. The screw was so tight I had to take baby steps like a toddler to get around the rink. It took forever and was a bit embarrassing since I am the accomplished skater in our family. My next pair was much better, but if we lived closer to a rink I would buy my own. Rental skates are just not that great. We all had fun with our friends to kick off (or should I say skate off) the holidays. The girls also had a massive baking day with Grandma where they made about 12 dz cookies for D's work and our neighbors. Today it is off to dinner with our Aunt and enjoying lights at the motor speed way.

We had time to make a couple of gifts this year. This is a clock for my dad. |
We had our first chicken escapee this week. We are still not sure how she got on the wrong side of the fence, but are making some adjustments to hopefully stop it from happening again. At least it wasn't a rooster, they not only hate to be picked up, but also bite. However, the hen that made it over is the only one we have that won't let us pick her up (at least not easily). We decided our best bet was to chase her into the dog kennel and carry her back. Once that proved to be unsuccessful, we decided to lure her in with treats and her buddy. L went and got one of the yellows that just lets us man handle her and brought her over to the neighbors yard. I know what you think. That sounds kind of stupid setting another chicken free to catch the other one. Well, yes, it turned out is was. Now, we had two chickens out and upset about not being in their coop. Long story shortened (somewhat) the yellow finally let us just pick her up (she thinks she is a baby) and T chased the original loose one up against a fence and then grabbed her and threw her in the kennel. Crisis over, but we learned something. We have a hard time catching crazed chickens and adding more to the mix does NOT help. Apparently, as a plus, this whole ordeal scared the other yellow into laying her first egg, which was a double yolk. Poor thing, it was like an ostrich egg!

The escapee is the brown one on the back right. The bait was the front left yellow one.
