Backyard Tractor Derby.....not really but they would like that. |
Sorry, it has been so long since the last update. D and I have been literally working on the camper from pretty much sun up to last light virtually EVERYDAY he has off. We really made a lot of head way with it the last four days. We can actually see the end approaching now. I won't list what we have left to do because it will probably bring tears to both our eyes. We are soooo tired of working in the heat, doing all this tedious, back killing work, and the knowledge that only about 4 more full days will bring us to its completion is both over-whelming (FOUR MORE DAYS!!) and a relief (Finally!). I cannot wait to actually be able to go do fun things again. L told me yesterday that she was tired of her father and I being outside working all the time. I know it must be hard on the kids playing the wii inside in the a/c while we roast day after day. I don't know how they have managed.
I can't honestly say if I knew that it would end up being this big of undertaking if we would have proceeded, though some issues did need to be addressed or we would not have been able to use it much longer. In all honesty, we would be done now if we had not been blessed with so much rain. For about two weeks the camper had to stay wrapped up in a tarp because of rain or chance of rain. It takes D about one hour to tarp the stupid thing so if there is any chance a storm might pop up then we cannot work on the camper. We have a scout camping trip coming in about a month so we are on a deadline, but I think we can do it.
We received about eight inches of rain in 2 days. For about half a day, our yard looked completely flooded, but it was so dry that it absorbed very quickly. This really helped the cracks we had. Most of the thinner ones are gone and the wider ones are now only about 4-6 inches deep, which is a HUGE improvement over 30 plus inches.

It felt good to see water again. |

It was so dry that everything absorbed after a couple of hours.

The chickens weren't sure what to do with that much water. In fact, two of them just wandered around in pouring rain. We joked that they were actually ducks. Good news on the chicken front. The last hold out, the one L calls Lucy and loves to cart around like her baby, finally laid an egg. L was so excited and said I could now stop calling her baby worthless. Unfortunately, we can't eat any eggs for a 10 day period because we just dewormed the chickens, but after that we may get 7 eggs a day!
I see omelets in our future.

Poor Chickens were on an island. |

Glad the rocks act as a water barrier. |

The rain wasn't phasing her. |

We had fun collecting crawfish out of the ditch....we released them. |

Apparently a turtle had been under the deck. |
A and L are starting volleyball season next week. They should both be on the same team. I played L up a level this season to make that happen. It was really crazy trying to make 2 practices at different facilities at the SAME TIME and make multiple games on Saturdays. This way everything is stream lined into one . They are both on the 14U team. Yes, A turns 15 on Sept 8, but the cut off is Sept 1 so we get to beat the system and she can play for another full year. They are both excited that it starts soon and have been starting to practice drills in the back yard. T is playing basketball again in November and Scouts starts back in September. The busy days of school are returning.

After the storm, I love the country. |
