The Bunch Are Ready For A New Year!

I can't believe we are once again at the beginning of another new year. We have a lot of plans for this year, including another long trip, though we might make a few alternate plans just in case of a government shut down. Several national parks are on the itinerary and sadly if there is one thing you can count on, it is politicians to NOT agree on anything other than disagreeing.

We ringed in the New Year in our "normal" manner. We drank freshly pressed NO SUGAR added grape juice, played games, and watched a movie. Then we watched the ball drop in NYC. That is a feat in itself. It is really annoying to watch all the "Rockin Eve" festivities, but get switched to local station about 1 minute before the ball drops. No one cares about the Dallas festivities and it leaves us scrambling to find a YOU TUBE LIVE feed to try and watch the last 30 seconds before the ball drops and we can finally stick the kids(and ourselves) in bed.

We are NOT a family that makes resolutions. I figure we know what we need to be doing all year long and some arbitrary date each year isn't what I should wait for to implement better habits. That being said this was the PERFECT time to implement a sugar detox. The rules for this are simple we can eat NOTHING with added sugar or artificial sweetener. That means no drinks, no creamer, no cereal, most breads and pasta, no condiments except real mayo and mustard, apparently French fries even have sugar added to "give a uniform golden color". Why?!! We are on Day 5 and I am not going to lie it hasn't been pretty. We don't really eat a lot of sugar, but completely cutting it out has been a little harder than I thought. For example, today after we came back from the basketball games I heated up organic chicken nuggets (no sugar)  and couldn't have BBQ sauce or ketchup. It sucked. Everyone has been pretty irritable the past couple of days and I am pretty sure if a girl scout wandered down our driveway there might be an all out fist fight over cookies.  Surprisingly though, most of what we are all talking about is not sweets or desserts, but real food. My  daughter wants ranch, my son wants queso and chips, I want a burger and fries (which is probably the weirdest because I NEVER want to eat a burger), and my husband wants wine. 2 more days! Arghhhh!!!

T started basketball season this week.  His new jersey came in and he did not have to wear one that was 4 sizes too small! They lost the first game by a couple of points and won the second game by  a couple of points. Thanks to a draft system this season the teams were pretty evenly matched.

Sorry for no pictures this week, but the only thing I took a picture of this week was the grocery list. Blame it on the detox. If you are interested I need fruit, oil, butter, milks (we use 3 types), vegetables, toilet paper, and multi grain tortilla chips.

Happy New Years Every One!

The Bunch Have A Hard Week

This was actually part of T's present. He had been begging D to do it.😂 It only stayed around a short while. After throwing such a fun and memorable birthday party for T at the lake with his basketball buddies, we have decided to part ways with the basketball organization. I cannot get past that evil man being anywhere near us or people I care about. I did make sure to give everyone a fair warning about the evil man and they can now hopefully make an informed decision about their level of involvement with him. I don't think T's too bothered by it. He didn't want to play this year anyways, but I had originally really wanted him to be around his friends. I am not sure what we will do instead, but I know he is happy to NOT have to run. He hates running. I am basically just feeling completely defeated. I trust no one and have a complete LACK of faith in police officers and lawyers. I know my husband is a good officer, but that's about it and the count is on until June

The Bunch Enjoy Easter

The Bunch ready to head to church to celebrate Easter. We had a wonderful Easter. The kids and I dyed eggs together. T made a fairly intricate Guns N Roses logo egg while A and I just enjoyed making pretty eggs. We have discovered that using food coloring makes for way brighter eggs than using the horrible Easter egg dye kits from the store. I participated in the egg hunt with the kids this year. It was so much fun! We laughed so hard as we all ran around trying to beat each other. Afterwards, we had our traditional egg gravy and went to church. We enjoyed a ham dinner and watched HOP. It was a great day.  T worked a long time on this egg. It was by far the most intricate egg he has ever done. He did a fantastic job! T actually fell down (you can tell by grass on his knee), but he wasn't going to lose no matter what! We had so much fun and laughter! It was great!! All smiles on our way to church. It was a little early still for A. The week has been pretty good. Better than I though

The Bunch Celebrate Valentine's Day And Grandma's Birthday

Obviously, now that my kids are all pretty much grown Valentine's isn't as big of deal to them. However, in keeping with tradition, not to mention the fact T still wanted out of school for the day, we still had a mini party.  I told them that this year I wasn't going to get them any candy, normally I get balloons and special treat for each of them, but this year I just wasn't feeling it so I decided I would buy them all pizza (a treat since I rarely allow pizza) and I had some little Bundt cakes to celebrate with. They all said they were fine with that. L doesn't really do sweets, A doesn't like chocolate, and T doesn't like truffles, but they all like pizza. We took the day off and fortunately didn't have any basketball related stuff. No practice, no games, a rare no basketball day. We watched a movie, played some minute to win it games, and just basically enjoyed a nice low key day.  I remember the old days when they were little and we would all make
