T made the most of the wind before we left. Iris was very interested in the scary kite! |
With all this craziness about Covid 19 taking our usual extended vacations in the camper have been postponed indefinitely. In fact, we will only be staying in our state and only go out for 2-3 days at a time, though that is more because of the animals than the illness. The horses and chickens are only good for a couple of days on their own. If we are gone longer we hire a sitter, which we have and can easily call, but since nothing is open except hiking at the campgrounds a couple of days at a time is fine. No sense is paying a sitter for only being able to go hiking.
We decided to go back to Eisenhower State Park this trip. It kind of started our love of camping. D and I had asked for camping items for Christmas and our first big trip to try our hand at camping was to this state park. We were in a tent then and had an absolutely stunning site at the top of a cliff. I was about 7 months pregnant with A then so we didn't really do any hiking. We blew up our little row boat and D rowed us around the lake. I had been helping him row, but then lost my paddle so D ended up doing most of the work. We had a fun time. We were excited to go back and actually hike and explore the park this time. With Covid everything is done online before you go. I hope this continues because it is so wonderful to just arrive and not have to get out and go register.

It was a nice spot and T even set up his tent. |

It was so windy there were large whitecaps in a protected cove! |

It is a pretty area. |
It was very windy the day we left. We weren't really worried about it though because we have traveled through Chicago and the 40 mph wind of the infamous Waco trip. However, as it turns out driving straight in really windy conditions is way different than driving on super twisty country back roads in medium winds. As it turns out, I can get car sick here. Thank goodness we were only going about an hour away and that we had our bathroom, though getting sick next to cars whizzing down the highway definitely did not help the feeling of nausea . We eventually made it and luckily the trees at the park blocked most of the wind so the rv stopped rocking. The weather was suppose to be perfect while we were there so T brought his tent to sleep in instead of the rv.
The weather was perfect. We went exploring and on a few hikes, but we also used a feature on our camper I never thought we would. We used the outdoor hookups to set up the tv. It was quite enjoyable to sit outside next to the fire and watch tv. Most people probably watch sports, but not D and I. We watched the Presidential Debate, though it was probably more entertaining than sports. The campsites were actually well separated from each other so there was no worrying about disrupting the neighbors. It was a fantastic trip and I hope the next one in couple of weeks is as fun. We are heading to a park by Wichita Falls that is suppose to have great star gazing. We even made sure this time we don't go on a full moon!
