The Bunch Finish Week 1 of School

The official "I am waiting for a treat" corner.

We started back to school on Monday as planned. Since A doesn't start school until the 23rd, she was my helper this week. It felt weird doing school with just the younger two, but everything went well. It is easier on me this year since A is finished and L is taking her geometry class online. After the horrible experience of having to do geometry with A, I decided to save what little sanity I have left and let someone else deal with proofs. I wish Texas didn't make kids take geometry. I think a business or consumer math would be of far greater value to the students. That's why for our 4th year of Math in high school the kids take Consumer Math instead of Trig. Trig isn't a requirement so I tried to pick something that would actually be useful in life. I loved the consumer math so much that I really wish we could replace geometry with business math, but for some reason Texas wants geometry. At least my kids will get the consumer math, which is so beneficial for them to learn about interest rates, mortgages, and which job is better (hint : it doesn't always pay the most!).

The girls had friends over so T and I moved out to the camper to do school.

T has basketball tryouts in 2 weeks. The cutoff date for age is Sept 1st, which means even though T turns 13 on Sept 3rd, he still is considered 12. He wants to play on the 14U team with his friends and other kids who are closer to his height and weight. Some of the 12U kids are literally half his height and weight! The basketball group keeps pushing the 12U on T and I get it. They want this huge player, but T doesn't like being the man child on the team. It isn't fun for him. If he doesn't make the bigger team then he will probably just sit out this year. Of course, with this renewed level of Covid stupidity that is coming back, he might not get to play anyway!

D and I officially put his retirement date in our calendar. It will be June 1st, 2028, which sounds crazy far, but we know it will be here before we know it. It has already been 5 years since we left city life for the country! D keeps saying he will make twice as much a month in pension if he stays 5 more years after that, but nope. If we need good insurance that bad, we can work at the library or even Kohls, not at the police station! I also want some time to travel and see the US before we can't hike or enjoy being active.

C has been busy planning his wedding. He wanted to take T shopping for his wedding clothes this month, but I nixed that. T grows so insanely fast that trying to size him this early for clothes to wear at the end of December would be silly.

The garden is mostly done now. We have eaten like 40 cantaloupe in the last 2 weeks! Apparently, cantaloupe are crazy high in potassium so we have definitely exceeded our recommended intake. They turned out really yummy though and over all I was very happy with our garden this year. I have a years supply of squash and okra in my freezer. Believe it or not in our search to use all our zucchini up I found a chocolate cake recipe and hands down it was the BEST chocolate cake recipe I have ever had! It is hard to believe how versitile zucchini is. We made sweet breads and savory breads with it and everything turned out so moist and yummy! I also discovered my horse is a cantaloupe fiend! She accidentally stuck her head over the garden fence(it's a permanent fight we have which so far she is winning at) and took a bite of a cantaloupe. That's all it took. That one bite. Now, if she sees me head to the garden she will come running and call out to me to come bring her one. I just put it on the ground and she eats it like an apple. She LOVES it! She is going to be sad when she realizes that cantaloupe season is over.

We found a cute Western themed McDonald's on the way to visit my in laws.

The Bunch Start Birthday Week

Yes, my Mom had my name misspelled on the cake.😂 It was still yummy so it was all good. T, A, and I all have our birthdays within a week and a half. Which means there is a crazy amount of sugar within those 10 days. We always like to make whoever's birthday it is feel special for the day. We watch what they want,do activities they like, eat what they pick, do their chores for them, etc. It not usually too expensive, but just a fun day where it's focused on them. The kids use to use their days to rule like little kings and queens, but have become a lot calmer in their "old" age since they get to do whatever they want most of the time anyways. We are a pretty close family and do a lot of things together all the time anyways, but on birthdays we still make sure we defer to the birthday boy/girl. My birthday is first and the kids do so many nice things for me all the time, but they put forth an extra effort on my birthday. This year A even woke up early to turn the cof...

The Bunch Visit Family

We had fun playing some board games...and it wasn't even a fun jar idea! We just did it because it sounded like fun! The fun jar has been a little slow being implemented this year. T made sure to let me know! We're making up for it next week by drawing several things.  We have had a wonderfully busy week visiting family and getting things done around the house. We went over to my parents house to celebrate Father's Day and while the boys played games with Grandpa, the girls went with Grandma to show her what all the fuss about Trader Joe's is about. She enjoyed looking at all the different things and even found a few gems of her own. It was a nice day and fun to get out together for a little bit. We had a great day!🥰 We picked up Whataburger for my Dad as a treat and my mom made some tots and a side salad up to go with it.💗 We also had a nice long visit with our Aunt P. She's been under the weather and we hadn't had a visit in a couple weeks so it was nice t...

The Bunch Have A Fantastic Week!

Pickleball is always fun! Now that the weather has been nicer, albeit super windy, we have been trying to do our weekly pickleball match. Basically, this week whoever was playing with the wind won! We still have fun playing even when it is windy. In fact, playing in the wind probably makes us have more fun. The wind gusts sometimes pick the ball up and make it do some funny things, like getting the ball and pushing it back onto your side so you lose a point or blowing it three courts over! Luckily, we are usually the only ones there so it doesn't matter if we play across 4 courts. Afterwards, we usually go get some ice cream/ frozen yogurt and just enjoy our outing.  T went camping this weekend with his troop. They worked on orienteering, which I was super happy about since T needs to work on that something fierce, but unfortunately the boys in troop aren't much better than him at orienteering and the first guy oriented them upside down on the first one so they basically was...
