Goodbye, old friend! It was fun. |
For those who have been reading my posts for the past THIRTEEN years (crazy it has been that long) you might remember that in 2018, on a very cold, rainy morning in October, on our way to the grocery store we saw, a very wet about to give up on life, chicken in a ditch off of the highway. I stopped the car and L went to go retrieve her. She was in such bad shape that we weren't 100% sure it was even a chicken. It could have been a vulture. However, we put a cage in our kitchen with a heat lamp and rehabilitated her for a month. Not only was she a chicken, but she turned into our BEST chicken! She was so sweet and so loving with us that we bought more chickens that were her dominant breed (she was a mix and we know that because while she looked exactly like a speckled Sussex, she laid green eggs and ONLY Easter eggers lay green eggs). However, disappointedly the other speckled Sussexes are nothing like her. They are actually trouble makers and regularly fly out of the coop and we have to go round them up. They're actually pretty annoying. The sweetness was just her grateful for us saving her lifestyle. She was already a couple of years old when we found her in 2018 so she lived a super long and happy life. It wasn't a surprise she died since she was around 8 years old, but we'll miss her following us around and wanting to be picked up. Goodbye Highway Chicken, you're already missed!
As we have every year for the past 5 years we all put 5 things we want to do this summer on a piece of paper and everyday that we have time we draw from the jar to see what we'll do. We each get 5 slips of paper and 1 can be about $50 expense, we call it the big one, 2 a small expense (like ice cream or rent a movie), and 2 are completely free ( like going on a hike or watching a new movie from one of our apps). This week we actually were able to draw twice from the jar. Ironically, both the ones we drew were T's ideas. The first was to go to Denton and visit this new arcade on the downtown square. It's $12 a person, but you get unlimited all day play. Honestly, I am not much of a video game person, but this was super fun. I played the whole two hours we were there! They had 2 floors of old arcade games, ski ball, pin ball, and so much other stuff. The boys had a blast too! Sadly, A had to work so she wasn't able to go with us, but she will get to partake in other adventures with us this summer I am sure. The other idea he had was to build a fort that takes up the whole living room. T always loved making forts in his room and it is pretty amazing what he can accomplish with rope and some sheets. After we built (more like T built it), we all piled in it and played WII U Party. It is absolutely one of our favorite games. We play it fairly frequent since multiple people can play it together and it always guarantees a lot of laughter! Thanks for introducing us to it Cindy!

We had so much fun on a hot afternoon. It was perfect. |
|
It literally took up the whole living room. |

A during the building process. |
|
T diligently working on figuring out how to do this. |
|
They played driving games, guitar hero, pin ball, basketball, shooting games and so much more together. T is now the the 3rd best to ever play the shooting game! |
|
This place was so much better than I thought it would be. |

We were a little overwhelmed on what to do first. There was so much to choose from. |
Overall, we had a wonderful, albeit very hot and humid, week. The lake has been closed since the tornado in MAY caused so much damage. It says it might be ready to open by July 11 and I hope they are able to open it then. T and I are dying to go swimming! Basically, if you don't have your own dock you aren't getting on Lake Ray Roberts. Both state parks and the marina are closed with tornado damage. It is so weird driving over the lake and seeing it completely empty on hot summer days.
