Ok. So I accidentally took us on the wrong trail. We figured it out about a mile in. In my defense the Greenbelt has like 5 entrances, covers 10 miles, and has multiple trails. Scenic outlook, I guess we will try to hike you again next time! |
It has been quite awhile since we have taken the rv out. After our April trip, we caught Covid and and then another illness which took us about two months total to recover from. Once we were finally physically well enough the kids were busy with camp and sports. This brought us to August which is usually just too hot to camp, though this year probably would have been ok. That brings us to our trip this week. Almost 5 months to the day of our last trip, we finally went camping again! Did we go somewhere super fun and different? Nope. Not at all.We went to the state park that is literally 20 miles from our house. We did this for several reasons. The most important was that this was A's first time staying at home alone for an extended amount of time. I wanted to be close just in case she needed us. We decided to leave Maisy at home with A so she could have company. Noelle came with us. She needs more camping practice and Maisy is getting older and doesn't seem to care too much for camping anymore. It seemed like a good solution. Unfortunately, A kept letting me know that once we left Maisy wouldn't leave the rug by the front door. After 24 hours and A feeling really bad that Maisy was so miserable, we came and picked both of them up for our last night. A was really excited to come too. She does not like change and though she never complained I know she was not happy about being left behind. She spent the evening catching up on the last 24 hours with her siblings.

I had wanted to do this trail for awhile. It has the remains of an 1880 cabin. |
They had fun even before A got there. |
Noelle was very interested in the deer. |
I am not going to lie; it was hot, but shade and the fans made all the difference. |
Only the chimney remains from that 1880 cabin. |
We also found a nice amphitheater off the trail. |
It looks empty, but there was actually a lot of people there. We wondered if Monday was a holiday, but it turns out it wasn't. I guess people just took time off. |
It was cold, but a nice respite from the heat. We tossed a ball around for more than an hour. |
Another reason we decided to camp close was because L had choir practice. Just D, T, and I left together to go set up camp while A drove L to choir. After L's practice, we came and picked her up and brought her back to camp. Unfortunately, the cold front was pushed back by a day and it was over 100 degrees on our trip, which actually wasn't as bad as it could have been. The a/c worked great and we spent the afternoon swimming in the COLD lake water. We had fun. The kids had a blast and once A joined them they played games and watched a movie together.
Our next trip is next week and this time we will be far enough away that A won't join us, but close enough we could reach her in about an hour and a half if we needed to. Noelle will be keeping her company.
