Finally!! She was super excited! |
Yes, it was finally that time. It had been a full three months since I booked the "earliest appointment" with the DPS for L to get her license. As expected, I still had to produce all the same paperwork that I not only showed two years ago when A got her license, but also the exact same paperwork as when I got my "special real id". You know the license they touted as being extra secure in knowing who you are, which apparently two years after it went into effect isn't good enough for even their own agency. I hate the DPS! It is so frustrating, but at least we are done for the next six months and then I have 2 more years before I have to do it again. I am still not sure if I would have rather waited the 6 hours like it took when A got her license or wait the 3 months to get an appointment. L is handling driving better, at least every outing doesn't end in tears. It's not all rainbows and roses, but the no crying and actually wanting to drive is a big plus with her.
We are excited about Easter. This year the kids are dying all of our own eggs. The past two weeks we have been saving all the white and light green eggs for us to dye. I am curious if the green eggs will turn a different color than the white ones. I will keep you posted. I actually had a hard time finding a ham this year, but about a week before Easter this year I finally found some and as a bonus it was on sale for about 60% off. We always have a ham, potato casserole, green beans, and deviled eggs for Easter dinner. It is tradition.
Three dozen of our very own light colored eggs! |
We have had 3 wrens move into the chicken pen. No kidding. They put a nest in the door and come out with the chickens when I go feed them scratch. They also fly out with them in the morning when I let the chickens out. We have about a million rabbits living in the backyard now. Maisy isn't as fast as she was in her younger days so most of them can get away from her. In fact, two of the rabbits that live under our deck are so tame that they come onto the deck and drink from Maisy's water bowl. The rabbits only go up if Maisy comes out, other than that they could care less and stay out. We can even get within a couple of feet of them and they don't move. We also have our field larks back. The field larks are really neat. They have nested here for about three years now. Their babies are born with feathers and can run right after being born. The chicks cannot fly until they are about 6 weeks old though. We will see mama running around with her 3-4 babies by her and it is so cute. I am glad our children have been able to experience all this, though I could do without the snakes and field mice. They have had a wonderful country experience, including crawfish fishing. Our three hummingbirds are back. I love watching them on the deck....so does the cat! I have the feeder set up where I can sit on the couch and just watch them come and ago. It is relaxing. Country life is great!
Noelle is VERY interested in these enormous birds! |
The chickens like Maisy's water too. I rarely let them out of their pen area because they just get on the deck and drink the dog's water. |
I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter!
