This was after it had melted quite a bit. |
This summer has been off to a crazy start. This year as a whole has not been good to us. We've had D's illness, L's emergency room visit, a huge hailstorm and all of its aftermath, a septic issue, tire issues, and it just goes on and on. In keeping up with this unlucky streak, we just found out that D cannot get off for my much anticipated couples vacation. They, like most places, are very short staffed and can't hire just anyone to immediately start working. D is almost the most senior officer there so we almost never have to worry about him getting time off because time off goes to the most senior officer requesting time if someone else wants the same days. However, some officers are in training that day and he can't get off one of the days that is literally right smack in the middle of our trip. It's not worth the hassle of going for just one night. To finish capping off this wonderful week, we had yet another hail storm. This time it was larger hail, but there was no wind and less in quantity. However, some were as large as grapefruits and caused several cars on our street to lose windshields. Last month all the houses had tarps from roof damage and everyone got new roofs. In fact, ours was just finished a week before this last storm. Apparently, this week most people are getting new windshields.
We were lucky that none of the larger pieces struck our windshields, but T's basketball goal was cracked and all the cars have pretty significant hail damage. We'll have the roofer come back and check how it held up. Poor AJ. Her car had just come back after getting fixed from the last storm. She barely had it for a month. She'll probably get her car fixed this fall after storm season. The other cars we'll just have to live with. We do have insurance on them also, but they are so old that they would most likely be totaled out and then if we wanted to keep them them, which we would since they still run and are paid for, they would charge us a "salvage" fee exactly equal to whatever they were going to give us. There's no point in claiming anything unless the cars are inoperable. Basically, now our trailer and cars look very obviously hail damaged. It is what it is. It could have been worse and at least we missed the tornado. We were in the path of the same storm that hit Perrington, TX. It was devastating to them.
This week is all about getting ready for L's graduation party. L helped me paint the front porch ( and eventually the whole house) a grey color to match the new roof (which we hopefully don't have to replace again). Hopefully, it won't be too hot. She has plans for her friends to play corn hole, maybe some volleyball, and, of course, the highlight of watching fireworks.
Maisy had to go visit A again at work. She has had so many issues since she has gotten older, mainly ear infections and skin infections. Ironically, A ran a ton of blood work on her and Maisy doesn't have any cancers and is "one of the healthiest dogs" that they see, which makes the constant skin issues even more annoying. We have tried everything (and I mean everything) and while it's a lot better than it was, she is by no means completely better. We have done expensive shots, pills, food, and oils. The best combo seems to be 2 benadryl three times a day and special food with no beef, soy, dairy, grains, or chicken, with salmon oil and probiotics. We also have steroid drops for her ears once a day. It can be a lot, especially if we are busy with other things.
She's like a real little worker! I am so proud! |
Maisy is so embarrassing! She is NOT good around other animals or new people. She is especially bad now that she is hard of hearing. It makes her more reactive to stimuli. |
A giving her an exam ❤️ |
It's been over 2 weeks now since our last bob cat sighting. I have started letting the chickens out again, but mostly just staying in their pen. I have let them out in the backyard a couple of times, but it stresses me (and my rooster ) out when everyone spreads out and wanders off. Yes, so far the rooster has stayed. He is pretty sweet with us, but he is starting to get aggressive with the hens, though the older ones will quickly put him back in his place. It's kind of funny to watch, but if he harasses the younger ones too much, he'll have to go. D really wants to try skinning him, but so far I am not ready to eat him. That may change soon. We'll see.
Happy L graduation party week to everyone 🥳
