It is crazy hot here. It is so depressing to look at the 10 day forecast and see no chance of rain and that everyday the temps will be between 102 and 106. I am so tired of waking up and immediately starting outside chores. We make sure we are finished no later than 11am outside since it is so hot. We have also hooked up misting systems in both the chicken coop and horse barn. We have used the misting system in the chicken pen during the summer since we have had chickens and so far have never lost one to heat. This is the first year for us to put one out in the horse barn, but with the temps at 106 with heat indexes of 115 for the foreseeable future, I thought the horses might appreciate some help cooling off. It helps it stay about 15 degrees cooler which could be life saving. So far they seem to like it. I also give all the farm animals cold cantaloupe in the afternoon (including the baby bunny who won't leave my garden. I feel for him since it is so hot.)
Since we are finishing all of our chores so early, we have a lot of down time to draw from the fun jar. Now that we are feeling almost back to 100%, we can pick fun jar activities that let us LEAVE the house (yay, finally) though thanks to the sky high cost of gas and horrible inflation, this year there were parameters to the fun jar. We each get to put 5 activities into the jar. Normally, it can be whatever, even day trips. However, this year because of the increase in cost of EVERYTHING, we each had 3 stay at home free activities and two go into town activities (with in 30 miles, which is the first decent size town/city that has things to do in it). So far this week, we have been bowling, gone to a coffee shop, made homemade lip balm, baked chocolate banana bread, and ate snow cones. What is interesting is that after about 2 weeks everyone forgets what they put in the jar so it is a surprise for all of us! We are debating starting school early and then after it cools off some taking the rest of our summer break.
Bowling is one of T's least favorite things to do. He did bowl well though. |
L and T tied for first place on our second game. |
Our first game was crazy close. |
We are still dealing with Maisy's chewing on herself. I finally figured out that she was what had been freaking the horse out. Iris does NOT like the weird blue creature!😂 |
A had her first interview this week at a Veterinarian practice in Gainesville. She said it went really well and expects them to hire her part time starting in mid -August. I am really proud of her. She also went in to have her moles completely removed. They took way more out than I thought they would. I was literally shocked when I took the bandage off. She ended up with about 12 stitches and a mark that took up almost half her back. They seemed to have downplayed to us how much they needed to get out. No wonder A was telling us her shoulder was sore.
T started back to basketball this week. It feels like year long basketball even though we did have a 3 month break. This was T's first real workout since being so sick. He did great the first half and the second half started to drag a little. By the time we headed home, he was completely exhausted and complaining about all the snot in his throat. Slowly, but surely he is getting back to normal. Just not as quickly as he would like.
He is really happy to play with his size kids this year. |
It was a long hard practice for him, but a good one. |
L has been going to see her friends at church. One night a week the Student Ministry has a high school hang out night where the kids play games and sports activities. It lasts a couple of hours and my two high schoolers really like it.
