He loves his boxes. |
This past week T went to his church camp for a week. He has been doing this every summer for about 7 years. He loves it and very much looks forward to it every summer. The past 3 years, since A has been old enough to stay home alone, when the kids have gone to camp for the week, D and I head out to go do some camping on our own. This time while T was away, we headed to Lake Bonham. We did not stay at the Texas State Park. We mentioned in June that we never planned to stay there again until all the updates were done and it was easier to get in and out. We stayed at Lake Bonham owned and operated by the City of Bonham. H had found it for us when we moved them in June to their lake house. It is less than 7 minutes from them by road and maybe one minute by boat. It was VERY different staying there than at anywhere else we have stayed. First off, all reservations are done online, as in you HAVE to go online to register for a spot. There is no other option. We you arrive you DO NOT check in ANYWHERE. You just drive to your spot and unhook. They have "hosts", but literally they never said anything to us. Apparently, the camping is done on almost like an honor system thing. After we found our spot, and waited for the people in it to leave more than an hour past check out time, we parked and then figured out that the rv electrical pedestal was on the WRONG side! Luckily, we travel with a crazy long 50 amp extension cord that we have to use to plug in the RV at our house so we can reach it in the garage. I was worried we might not have enough water hose, but we ran it under the rv and it did actually reach. The park was pretty nice, but it was obvious it was devastated by the high wind storms last month. The straight line winds were over 100 mph and many of their cedar trees were toppled so it was still a construction mess. C actually lost power, like most of Bonham, for several days. What a greeting to get from your new house!
The first night we were there, a huge thunderstorm raged for a few hours. It was so loud! However, even though Axl had no anxiety meds, he did so well! I really don't know why storms in the camper don't bother him as much, but I really appreciate it. Trying to deal with him in that small of a space would be a nightmare! The next day we headed over to C and H's for a cookout. C made some really yummy burgers and sausages on his Blackstone and later H set us up to make s'mores with a tabletop fire pit. It was a fun day! Even better, Axl was an angel while we went camping! He didn't do anything while we left him alone! And we left him for almost 4 hours while we were at C's! I have decided he is ready to be left alone all day so we can head out for T's senior trip anytime.

Our site had a pretty view. |
The big thunderstorm was a surprise, but Axl was a champ. |
Axl was by far the largest camping dog.😂 |
There was about 60 geese wandering around our site....which is cool until you realize their poop is EVERYWHERE! |
They are actually a really big nuisance. |
C using his Blackstone to make a fantastic dinner! |
H and Izzy. Izzy is loving the huge backyard. I am not sure if she has swam in the lake yet. |
The table top fire pit was neat. |
D reading in the shade while I enjoyed swimming. He hates the sun, but he still swam with me for about 30 minutes before he went to the shade. |
I love swimming at the lake. It reminds me of my childhood and taking my kids to the lake for the day. Magical times.🥰 |
I swam around for over an hour and when I stood up my legs were super shaky. I had to sit for a minute before walking back to the rv, |
We had a great trip. We even played lots of games. |
Axl helped.😁 |

Yes, Maisy was there, but she's not getting around very well so this is how we mostly saw her. |
T had a blast at camp and per usual came back extremely tired. This year they decided to come back after everything was done on Friday instead of coming back the next morning.....which means we had to pick him up at midnight! We didn't get home until almost 1am! I am way too old to stay out until that late and still have to get up at 6:30am. I hope they decide against doing that next year. It was rough on all the parents and siblings! Unfortunately, he wasn't able to wear his disco pants to the 70's theme party. The zipper broke when he was putting them on. We had bought back up plaid shorts just in case so he still had an outfit, but the shiny blue pants were spot on. However, he still had fun and now has decided to try to win their mullet competition again next year. So basically the next few months will be a transition to his mullet. Apparently he thinks he can do better than the third place he won last year. So as you notice his shaggy hair, that's why.

Day one harvest: it's officially melon season. |
Day 2 harvest. Everyone now officially gets a whole cantaloupe a day plus a watermelon. |
Day 3 haul. Cantaloupe 60, watermelon 17. We are now gifting everyone melons." Thanks for the oil change, here have a cantaloupe".😂 |
Along with melonpalozza, the grapes were ready to be picked. |
Which means they must be cleaned and processed immediately. |
We love melons, but the three weeks of harvest can be intense when it's a good year. |
