This time they had his recital at a church and NOT the bar!! It was all the way in Denton though and didn't serve pizza. We would have preferred the bar!😂 |
I don't want to complain because we really needed the rain, but tapping the brakes on it for a few days would be fantastic. We have had so many storms either directly hit us or come close enough that Axl thought they did and still freaked out. In a desperate move we actually got his ginormous kennel back out and set it up in the middle of the living room. We really just wanted to contain him enough to be able to sleep. Yes, it's the same kennel that he has shown us he is Houdini in being able to escape, but this time (weirdly enough) he only is put in his cage when we are right next to him and crazily enough it's actually working! Unless there is a giant clap of thunder or hail beating down on the roof, he just curls up and pants in his cage, which is a big win for us! Now, he still enters his crazy phase with thunder and hail, but he just tries to dig out and chew through the metal bars, which he probably could do. We had a dog once chew through a door knob and this metal is thinner, but since we're right next to him we just "correct" his behavior and get him to stop. The cage has made a HUGE difference in our ability to sleep and not deal with his crazy destructiveness. So, if you happen to visit us during the stormy season, just expect a giant cage to be the focal point of our living room. And yes he still gets his anxiety meds before he gets kenneled. Otherwise, we'd probably NEVER get him in there! Our new issue is actually with Maisy. She has started wanting to get D and I up every 20 minutes to go outside at night. That combined with Axl and the storm issues, we're operating on zero sleep. In fact, D threatened to shoot Maisy the other night. He obviously didn't, but we're so tired that we may have to put her to sleep. We have already checked, there is no medical reason for this development. A thinks it is just a cognitive development caused by old age. She'll spend several nights doing this and then suddenly act normal and let us sleep. We'll see how it plays out, but at 15 for a big dog she's on borrowed time. (I say big, but next to Axl she's tiny!!)
We went to play pickleball this week between the storms. We had so much fun that we didn't realize how the high humidity was effecting us. I felt pretty sick after we were done. We are going to have to either play super early in the summer or find an indoor court. I didn't even eat our after pickleball ice cream, which is my favorite part! We planned on camping this week to work with Axl on being in the camper alone, but with all the storms we decided not to go because we can't handle storm Axl in the camper. That in no way would be good. We'll try again in a few weeks. If we can't get him ready in time for T's senior trip then we'll take T's senior trip next summer. It's only for a couple of days and not a couple of weeks like A's trip to Chicago so it should work out ok.

It seems like we always get flooded out and yet we're not in a flood zone. |

I am so tired of everything being wet and super muddy. |

The water was really moving. You could have gone kayaking in the ditches. |

A heard about this fun bookstore in Denton we went to check out. She bought some books, but I am boycotting the city and don't give them any of my tax dollars. |

Axl drools more than any dog I have ever met. |
