I had a great Mother's Day! |
The days maybe getting longer, but they seem to be going by faster! This week we celebrated Mother's Day. I had to take T to Grapevine to get new shoes and then we went to my mother's house to celebrate Mother's Day with her. Yes, we pass about a million shoe stores on the way to Grapevine, but T is super picky about shoes. He has to have hard court tennis shoes, which this store keeps exactly one kind in stock and since he likes it we trek down there, buy multiple pairs for the year, and then trek back. It takes an hour and fifteen minutes to get there just to spend 10 minutes in the store and it's totally worth it. He likes lateral support in his shoes so cross trainers should work, but they have cloth loops that attach the laces to the shoe and he ALWAYS rips them out so the laces have to actually go through the leather uppers and essentially this is the only option for a shoe he deems acceptable. After getting this year's shoes, we picked up some Braum's burgers for my parents for lunch and went to visit for a bit. T is still on the quest to beat Grandpa at checkers so they played a couple of games.....T still hasn't won yet😂. They take so long playing freaking checkers you would think it was a chess match!
Last year for Mother's Day since it was our first without L, the kids went all out to make it special for me. They got up BEFORE I did, made lovely signs to hang everywhere, planned the whole day including a family movie and snack; it was a wonderful surprise. This year I told them not to worry about doing anything. I just wanted to watch the same movie we watched last year and enjoy a snack together. They are such great kids and they do a million nice things for me all year long so I wanted them to know that I know that and appreciate it. They still made me cards and wished me a great day. It was perfect. D made me my favorite chicken meal for dinner and gave me some beautiful flowers. C and H both sent me beautiful messages and a lovely card. I thoroughly enjoyed my day.
T had his scouting awards ceremony this week. He was chosen to be the second officer next year, which means he is second in charge of the troop (the whole troop not just his age group). He has to help plan meetings and camp outs and make sure they are executed correctly. He has really loved getting back into scouts this year.
D and I were busy trying to get everything done outside before the next time it rains. I think we're just about ready for the next week of storms. D hasn't been feeling great so things are a little slow going and unfortunately the earliest his doctor can see him is in July!

We lost an entire 1200 lbs roll of hay so we are burning it periodically. David spent about 5 hours trying to burn some, but it was slow going because it was still too wet from all the rain so he spread it all out to dry out, but it was too windy to burn again so he gave up and just put a pile on the burn spot to burn another time. |
 |
After more than 24 hours, while we were in bed settling down for the night, A came to let us know the hay was on fire! This picture is after we got it under control, the fire was crazy high! At least the wind had died down. We stayed up until 10 burning hay. Now we only have maybe one more burning left. We were just happy A saw it before it got out of control and burned through the neighbor's hay field. |
A is getting use to being licensed technician. She has to take turns being on call so that has been an adjustment. For now she has decided to keep her part time schedule. She is really enjoying her downtime and using it to do stuff she enjoys that she didn't have time to do when she was in school. Mostly, she is catching up on all her reading. She has probably read 8 books in the past month!
