C surprised me with a visit and some birthday flowers 🥰 |
You know that kind of week where everything that can go wrong seems like it does, but it's not the worst week ever. It's just a wrinkle in your normally happy go lucky life. We normally have a pretty good life. Only the 6 month nightmare of alternate world craziness that L put us through is really the only truly horrible thing we have ever had to go through. Since then we have grown and healed (mostly) and are back to our normal chaotic happy life. Even after this week, we all still had plenty of laughter everyday. The first part of this we've kind of already mentioned...the dog. Everyone knows that Axl does NOT let us sleep if there is any kind of wet weather within a 50 mile radius (not kidding). However, we haven't really mentioned the issues we have been having with Maisy. Maisy is very old. She is 15 years old. We have taken very good care of her since we adopted her at 5. I really thought she'd only live to about 12-13 because of her size. However, here she is working on turning 16. We mentioned how we have been taking her on walks and giving her wagon rides when she gets tired, but what we haven't mentioned is she is going downhill at an accelerated rate all of a sudden. We have an issue at night where she has anxiety attacks all night and paces and pants sun down to sun up. I literally went 3 days without sleep this week and I can confidently say I am way too old for that. The kids and D are sweet and the night before they don't work they will watch her for me so I can get some sleep. Otherwise, I try to calm her down and keep her quiet so they can sleep. She has been having accidents almost daily. It's like she has no idea she's going to the bathroom. I feel like all we're doing is cleaning and laundry. The past few days her back legs have become so lame she can barely walk. It's hard, but I think we have decided it is her time. We most likely will have her euthanized in the next couple of weeks unless there is a dramatic turn around.
Besides the constant dog issues, we have been fighting with our trash can. I found a touch less trash can on my auction site. We all hate it. It rarely opens when we wave something in front of it and it's so frustrating not to be able throw your trash away! Our Aunt gave us another touch less lid that she doesn't use, but it just barely doesn't fit our can so I am going to take the lid to the store and find another can it fits because we want to throw trash away. The cans I got for the bathrooms are awesome and work great, but for whatever reason the kitchen one likes to ignore us . We also had our door knob quit working to the laundry room. Why do they make the knob insides with plastic?!?! After 20 years the cheap plastic turning part broke off WHILE THE DOOR WAS CLOSED! Fortunately, after some messing around D was able to get the door open without us kicking it in, which was going to be the next step. Basically, the no sleep, constant carpet cleaning, not being able to throw trash away, or get into the laundry room made it a hard overwhelming week. However, we laughed off and said we can't have everything.
The icing on our long week is that T became ill. He complained his throat hurt and after watching the news of Covid being on the rise and a main symptom was a sore throat I made sure to test T. He was negative. It's just strep throat or good old fashioned post nasal drip. He's been resting and recovering. It's nothing too serious so far. I think a few days of taking it easy and he'll be fine. Birthday week is next week so hopefully everyone will be well enough to enjoy it ...except D. He'll be recovering.

The turning piece snapped off. So frustrating and held my laundry hostage for the day. Thank goodness a cat didn't get stuck in there! |
