T and I on our daily morning "walk". |
We're ready for fall at The Bunch household. We haven't been able to enjoy our weekly pickleball and frozen yogurt for the past couple of months. We're anxiously awaiting the cooler morning temperatures that come with fall so we can resume our friendly competitive matches. T has been busy doing school and enjoying time with his friends. D's procedures turned out to be a little harder than we were initially led to believe. Instead of a couple of days to recover after each one, it looks like it will take about a week and the first three or four days are so intense that he pretty much can't function at all. Unfortunately, the doctor refuses to write a note so he can take sick time for it so basically he is just using a ton of vacation time. Luckily, he has a few hundred hours of vacation time so it's not a big deal.
T this week decided to make a mock apple pie. We learned about it a long time ago from our history book. It was supposedly popular during war time as a dessert substitute for apple pie. The scarcity of apples and the exorbitant price of the ones available made using Ritz crackers a popular alternative. We have always wanted to try it and see if it really tastes like apple pie. Well, T finally decided to make it so we could see what it was all about. He even made a homemade pie crust. While he was making it, it definitely smelled like like apple pie. The cinnamon and sugar made the house smell fantastic! We even bought some vanilla ice cream to have with it. While it wasn't an exact replica of apple pie, it was shockingly similar. It was pretty good. I don't think we will make it again though unless apples become crazy expensive or hard to find again. At least with real apples you have a slightly healthier pie.

It's rare he actually bakes, but the mood hit him right I guess and he decided we were FINALLY going to try mock apple pie. |
