| Tyler is supposedly the rose capital of Texas. We went in March and there was barely any blooming and now in September and there were none really blooming.🤔 |
D and I were really looking forward to our first trip out. We decided to bring Axl with us since T had school and other things going on. We didn't want to drive through the city with the trailer so we decided to take the long way around to get to Tyler, which turns a 2.5 hour trip into about a 4 hour trip. We will drive through big cities sometimes, but prefer to not if that's an option. We planned to leave on Sunday after D got back from church since it was his turn to play during the service. I stayed behind to finish packing and get everything finished for the animals. We did our pre check on Saturday night when he got back from work and surprisingly had to change a flat tire. We didn't notice anything on the actual tire so thought maybe it was a valve stem issue. No big deal though, we put the spare on and decided on Monday before we did something fun, we'd head over to Discount Tire and get it fixed. I wasn't too worried since we've literally never needed a spare and have criss crossed the entire US over the past 20 years.
D made good time getting home from church and we left almost immediately. We fortunately got to see A for about 20 minutes before we left. Apparently, she left San Antonio crazy early so she could make it back to relax for the rest of the afternoon before she had to go to work the next morning. She had a great time at her conference and the amount of swag she got was crazy! Everyone was giving her free stuff! After we got to hug her and check out her haul we loaded up and started out on our first solo run. I had made sandwiches for us to eat for lunch. Unfortunately, about 20 minutes in we realized the sandwiches were still in the fridge at home! Yep, I totally forgot our lunch! I guess the whole unexpectedly seeing A through me off my game. That sucked, but we would be there around 4:30 pm so we could just do an early dinner. About halfway there our TPMS start SCREAMING at us. We could see that one of the tires was rapidly losing air and fortunately we're right next to a rather large gas station so we immediately pulled over. After checking the tire, it appeared that it was another valve issue. At this point we have no idea what's going on. All we know is we need to change another tire, we have no spare, and it's Sunday. We were literally across the street from a tire shop, but it was, of course, closed on Sunday. We started brainstorming and thought of WalMart. We looked online and saw that their auto shop was open on Sundays until 7pm. It was 4pm. There was one about two miles away. We aired up the tire and limped our way there. We decided to not only fix the two we had issues with but ALL of our tires just in case. Obviously, we couldn't drive into the bay with the trailer so we parked along the side of the building. D had to change all 4 tires one at a time and roll them over to be fixed. It was hot and took a couple of hours. The moral of the story is replace your valve stems whether they need it or not EVERY TIME you get new tires. That $3 part can cause huge headaches!

Now, it was close to 6pm, we hadn't had any lunch, and D had just done crazy amounts of physical labor in the heat for 2 hours. He was literally shaking. I got us some snacks and protein shakes. After a few minutes, he felt better and we continued on our trip. We missed check in, by a lot, but went ahead and got set up. Unfortunately, it was dark by this point, which is never fun to set up in, and the site was extremely unlevel. It took a minute, but we eventually got set up and while dinner was cooking we got cleaned up. Happily, the rest of the trip went off without any hitches and we had a great relaxing time! We enjoyed going to the zoo, the civil war pow camp, and the planetarium.

| It wasn't our favorite zoo and definitely wasn't as nice as OKC, but it was decent and we had fun...it was super humid though. |

| It felt kind of weird to be touring a Civil War POW camp. Unfortunately, it was in rather sad condition, even most of the plaques were so rusted by the elements we couldn't really read them. |

While T was super bored the day A had to work, they went to a local zoo the next day and had a fun day together! Overall, it was a nice weekend for everyone!
