The Bunch Fight A Bobcat

L getting ready for her last speech assignment. A pretend job interview. This is what I wore on my wedding day. I never realized how much L looks like me! Maisy is helpful like always. Ok. We didn't actually really fight one physically (yet), but we are fighting with a bobcat about whether our chickens are allowed to be its lunch. This started back in February. While D was home on FMLA, we saw something way out at the back of the property. Since  living in the country the past 7 years, we have seen A LOT of wild animals. We have a 2500 acre ranch at the end of our street and 160 acre hay field directly behind us ( which unfortunately sold last year for a planned housing development 😭). Animals normally stay away from the only street in between these two places. There are too many people. We had an issue with a lynx when we first moved in, but Maisy kept it out of the yard and we would rarely see it except around day break. Therefore we kept the chickens locked up in the ear...

The Bunch Celebrate Mother's Day

My kids do a lot of wonderful, helpful things throughout the year so on Mother's Day I like to keep it pretty low key. The kids usually make me a card and some sort of dessert. They'll do any chores that I needed to do that day, mostly animal chores that pop up, like cleaning a trough out or moving hay. The rest of the time we just play games and watch TV. I don't give myself a whole lot of down time so sometimes it's hard to just relax all day! I have to say that just sitting around all day makes me feel more tired than doing stuff all day. I have no idea why it is like that, but inevitably it is. Whenever I get sick as soon as I feel able enough, I start moving around. Now, I'll start moving around at less than half of my normal rate, but within a few days I am usually back to feeling pretty normal. We had been so busy lately that it was really nice to have a day where everyone was home; we had nothing we had to do; and everyone was able to relax. I did prep som...

The Bunch Work On Finishing School

We met some friends at the park. I am really tired of the Galveston humidity. It was miserable at our park day!      We have been quite busy finishing up our school year and getting L ready for college. We decided on Blinn College. She is going to get her degree in Graphic Design and Photography. She will do an online program similar to A's, but with less animals and blood (hopefully!!!). She's excited and a little nervous. Change is hard. She has a few more things she has to do before she can register for classes, but she should be ready to go by the time summer gets here.  We have been dealing with insurance claims still from the hail damage on March 2. Everything is closed now except the one we started first! I knew I hated Allstate, but they were the least expensive at our last renewal and what was the chance this would be the ONE year we would make a claim. God loves to be funny! Fast forward 6 months and here we are. Right now they are trying to replace 82% of ...

The Bunch Watch L GRADUATE!

Wow. She did it! This was a momentous occasion 13 years in the making. L was my first child 100% homeschooled. I taught her at home from kindergarten to twelfth grade. I only supplemented by having her take geometry online, for no other reason than I loathe geometry. D helped out by doing all the kids science labs with them since his minor was in chemistry, though the kids swear he remembers nothing and is of no help.😂 Aren't kids great!?! L worked so hard studying and trying to do well. She made AB honor roll every year since 6th grade and graduated with a 3.68 ( which may change slightly after the last 3 grades are entered). I am VERY proud of her. She is fantastic at multitasking and getting things done, even if it's hard. I think she will excel at college! She has decided to pursue her passion and is going to get a degree in graphic design and photography. She has always been passionate about taking pictures of everything, especially food and animals. She has like 2000 pho...

The Bunch Have A Long Week

He is happy that the hair dresser got his mullet how he wanted it.  This week, and probably the next two, has been a little crazy. Police Officers have CRAZY amounts of training to do EVERY year, which is why it is SO ANNOYING when you hear "oh, the police need more training". No, they don't. More than likely the training that is being whined about is already being done. They just sound ignorant for suggesting it. It just shows that very little research goes into seeing what training is already required. Anyways, thanks to D being ill the first part of the year, he has tons of training to make up. I am not kidding when I say they have at least 2 weeks worth of all day training that they do every year! Thank God we only have 5 years left before he can retire! Basically, the next few weeks D doesn't get a day off. He has to go in on his off days to train all day.  My Aunt gave me a cookbook for Christmas by Brenda Gantt and we have been busy while D is at work trying ...

The Bunch Celebrate Easter And Get Their RV TOTALED!!

First off, we had a wonderful, and more importantly relaxing, Easter. The kids still had their egg hunt and T was once again victorious on collecting the most eggs. He now has a three month supply of candy. The girls both collected about the same amount, with L pointing out that technically she had more than A had. L is always competitive with her sister. It must come from being the middle child. We had our traditional breakfast of egg gravy and toast/biscuits. I had some trouble finding a ham this year so we almost made Easter pork chops, but two days before Easter, Aldi came through and not only had a ham, but had it 60% off! I made a potato casserole and some green beans to go with it, but the best part was L made Memaw's chocolate pie for dessert. L made a homemade cinnamon sugar crust for the pie and the combo was just magnificent. It was a great day!  L likes to use shaving cream to dye her eggs. We were out of red dye (and so was the store) so only blues and greens. T...
